You will find in this category each week, a review on an "UFO" track that is breaking the news. All styles are on the “menu” of this category: minimal, house, electro, techno or even trance in some cases.
The topic will be supplemented by other albums following the latest electronic music news.
It's been a while since I gave you some news about Cassius. It was already more than one year ago, for the release of the EP « Youth, Speed, Trouble, Cigarettes » in 2009. A year later, the French duo returns with its new EP "The Rawkers EP”. The duo that consists of Philip Cerboneschi (Zdar) and Hubert Blanc-Francard (Boom Bass), had originally wanted to release this album on their own label Cassius Records, and at the end it will be released on the label run by Pedro Winter, Ed Banger Records. These tracks will come out first as a vinyl on October 4 and then on October 11 in a digital edition. The first extract of this album « I <3 U SO » is already available on Beatport for a few days now.
Cassius - The Rawkers EP
01. Cassius - Brotherhood
02. Cassius - Les enfants
03. Cassius - The no no’s
04. Cassius - Shark simple
05. Cassius - I love you so
06. Cassius - Arcadine
This EP blends pop, rock and electronic ambiances. Each track has its own personality.
It begins with "Brotherhood", a punchy track that makes us think of the tracks that have been released on their latest album "15 Again", notably because of its mood.
Then, "Les enfants" gives us a unique atmosphere and a house music spirit, with a good dancing rhythm: a track easily playable during parties.
"The no no's" is a sweet track that is based on funky and disco samples like Breakbot’s track "Baby I'm Yours", that we reviewed several weeks ago.
"Shark simple" joins in its construction "Les enfants", with an indescribable atmosphere of hip hop at the beginning! Staccato in rhythm, the samples used will give you a kick for the early this gloomy fall...
"I <3 U SO" or "I love you so" (translated from the texting message codes) is more emotional than the previous tracks, with the presence of a filtered vocal. This track is the first single extracts from the album that has emerged. It is already available exclusively on Beatport for a few days. It should quickly become a classic of the French duo's discography. For us, it is the best song of this album.
Finally, "Arcadine" concludes this EP in style. It is a mix of jazzy and electronic sounds, with a very good piano and a female vocal that rhythms the music. Symbol of an album that revisits the genre, "Arcadine" uses many original samples, which might seem experimental by some of its sides.
In the end, Cassius remains true to its principles with a mixture of styles that works. Still effective, Cassius is a mature fruit that you can eat!
