Received as a promo, the new EP of Arnaud Rebotini, half of Black Strobe with Ivan Smagghe, is just amazing. Indeed, they are re-releasing Black Strobe's 2002 hit “Me & Madonna”, in December on Kitsuné, with remixes from The Twelves, Grand Crue, Tape 2 Tape and Jolie Cherie. This is the start of a very busy 12 months for Arnaud as he has a new solo album out early next year, a new Black Strobe album and a Black Strobe best of later in the year. Moreover, in a few days we will have the chance to interview Arnaud, so don’t hesitate to share with us some questions that we will ask him. After fantastic tracks like “Italian fireflies”, “Chemical sweet girl” or the remix of the Rapture "Sister Saviour", one of our most preferred French dark duo is back in the game….

03. Black Strobe - Me and Madonna (The Twelves Mix)
04. Black Strobe - Me and Madonna (Tape to tape Mix)
05. Black Strobe - Me and Madonna (Jolie Cherie Mix)
These tracks that have been written at the origins by Jennifer Cardini and Arnaud, will be released on 6.12.10. After almost 10 years, the duo Black Strobe comes back to life thanks to these new remix of one of their hit : “Me and Madonna”. First released on Output Recordings in 2002, Black Strobe's “Me & Madonna” set the tone for dark electro music that was to take over the clubs through the early 2000’s. It was more than 10 years ago. Black Strobe began to burn the dancefloors: The Pulp for instance, but also radio shows on FG as well.
Following it's reappearance on the latest Kitsuné Maison compilation, it now gets a full re-release backed up with remixes from a new generation of electronic music producers, including Jolie Cherie, The Twelves, Tape To Tape, and Grand Crue (Arnaud's new project with DJ Pone from Birdy Nam Nam).
Concerning the music itself, we have first the original that evolves in a 80s new wave spirit with disco revival hovering on the horizon and heavy dark loops. The second version, remixed by Grand Crue is certainly the most efficient of the EP. It is for us the best, as it keeps the dark vibe of the original. The track that you can hear below uses melodies that can be linked to certain remix of Etienne de Crecy, like « Aerodynamik » the track from Kraftwerk for instance.
Then the Twelves remix, is a classic one and follows the style of previous remix of The Twelves. It is said pop and electro, with sweets beats. Tape to Tape creates a version that has lost the dark side of the original that turns it into a different artistic. At the end, the remix of Jolie Cherie is quite a surprise. Indeed, there are some very interesting melodies that make him unique.
Nevertheless, as we prefer dark and underground music, we will advice you the remix of Grand Crue.
This marks the start of what looks set to be an incredible 12 months for Black Strobe's mastermind Arnaud Rebotini with 2011 promising the re-release of Italian Fireflies, the second volume of his 'Music Components' solo project, and a brand new Black Strobe album. With forward thinking producers, DJs and club nights once again digging deep to add elements of industrial and EDM to the prevalent electro sound, the stage is perfectly set for the return of Black Strobe. Pleas not also that Black Strobe will be at Social Club w/ Wagner on December 8th. Don’t miss them!
