Thanks to a friend, I discovered Turboweekend, a Danish group, which has released in March 2009 his second album "Ghost of a Chance". It consists of 11 tracks, including the discovery of the moment "Something or Nothing", a sublime track we will review in the following article. The Danish trio offers an album that mixes subtly electronic music and rock. Its particularity: a rock band without guitars! It has been nominated for the Best Newcomer of the Year 2009 at two of the biggest Danish award shows, P3 Gold and Zulu Awards.
This second album that was released under Mermaid Recording has been recorded in their studio in Copenhagen and shows all the talent of this trio notably the Danish voice of Silas Bjerregaard. He is accompanied on bass by Morten Køie and Martin Petersen on drums and on some productions of Anders Møller as a singer and synth player. It follows their first opus "Night Shift" that mixed pop and electronic music. The group is for example in the tradition of The Whitest Boy Alive. These Danish guys offer tracks that are mainly produced around a duo bass drums and synthesizers.
On this album, apart from the title we review there is the massive "Up with the Smoke - Down with the Ash" which takes us into a world of minimalist and psychedelic groove. It blows our heart with a trendy musical performance. There are also the excellent "After hours" and "Erase me" tracks that are in a funkier atmosphere with a voice close to an Uffie one. It is mainly these pieces that have an electro influence, the other are efficient too but not really dancefloor.
More precisely, for the track "Something or Nothing", it is a track that uses a combination of both rock and electronic elements and samples. The voice is perfect to pair with a very rhythmic dancefloor melody, musically accessible, like some Martin Solveig productions. It is a really exiting piece of music.
Finally, please hear the incredible remix of another Danish boy totally unknown in France that we found on Myspace and Youtube: Peter N. This progressive and minimal track as he proposes is simply crazy. The melody takes your body and your soul. We have contacted the artist and hopefully we will share with you a little surprise soon... We will keep you informed of the result.
We will therefore watch very closely this group and their next releases, following the vamp we took by discovering these Danish artists. It will be the same with Peter N.
