Pete Tong is one of the most influential DJs of the world. His latest EP "What?", in collaboration with Paul Rogers hits a lot of electronic music charts. The iconic DJ, known for his show "Essential One" on the English radio station Radio One, gives us here a trio of compositions that blend house and underground music. These tracks have probably been played more than once a few weeks ago for the Winter Miami Conference 2010 (WMC 2010). These tracks have been released under Toolroom Record, on which officiates too Mark Knight.
After many years as a radio host, Pete Tong has gradually developed skills to become a fine producer. He is known also for example for soundtracks of movies like "The Beach" or "Human Traffic". During his show, one of the most listened to in the world of electronic music; there were prestigious guests in his studio. For instance there was a live of Daft Punk in March 97, for an anthological "Essential Mix".
"Get it" shows us the artistic direction chosen by the two producers. A heavy beat, with a voice in a Louis La Roche’s style, that gives even more strength to the track. Then, once the voice is launched, the production becomes darker and darker, with metallic sounds.
Concerning "What?" it is a sound based on many percussions and some effects. Using a voice quiet similar to the one used on "Get It", the production is made with a very good synth that gives birth to an uplift tech-house track, especially effective for the after party.
At the end, "Ze Demo” has heavy beats and sounds pretty underground. In a rhythm that looks as Marc Romboy’s one, Pete Tong succeed a musical exercise not so easy. It is based too on modulated frequency.
This EP gives use a comprehensive overview of the talent of Pete Tong and Paul Rogers. These tracks have been successful during the 2010 WMC and will be played for sure by other Djs during the upcoming weeks... and maybe you…
