You will find in this category each week, a review on a top vinyl which is breaking the news. All styles are on the “menu” of this category: minimal, house, electro, techno or even trance in some cases.
The topic will be supplemented by other albums following the latest electronic music news.
This new production of Kris Menace, we must admit, surprised us. First of all, it is rare to see German artists release their tracks under Size Records the label headed by the Swedes. The new EP from Kris Menace is entitled "Masquerade" and is in line with the previous productions of the label run by Steve Angello. Until then Kris Menace, resident in Paris, had used to produce house music and funky tracks. The three tracks of "Masquerade" on this EP are now squarely in a different artistic direction. It is a funny turnaround for this artist, which stood as one the pillar producers of house music in the best sense of the term.
The latest release of the label Size Recordings was « Muchness » a track produced by Pete Tong & Mark Knight, that we reviewed. This 53th release of the Swedish label, is a progressive house production, as is the case quite often on this Nordic label. The EP was launched yesterday, on September 22, in digital version and simply takes the name of the event organized by the Swedish House Mafia at Pacha this summer in Ibiza.
This EP, rather surprisingly, is a real break from what we had been accustomed to hear with Kris Menace. The one who created sounds like "Discopolis" or "Jupiter" offers us new tunes not without disoriented us.
On the track "Swarm", there are very good synths at the beginning that remind us the productions of Kris Menace during his childhood! It goes crescendo and becomes more and more progressive and gives birth to a typical size recordistic track!
"Lockhead” is meanwhile a real progressive production whether in its original or remixed version by Steve Angello. These tracks, notably played by Pete Tong, features Douze, an artist whom I unfortunately did not manage to find more info about him.
At the end, we can say that we have a good EP by Kris Menace, who do not like at all to his previous productions. Honestly, we preferred the old Kris Menace, but I'm sure he will soon return to his first love… That what we wish… Don’t you?
