John Dahlback has just released his new EP composed of "Olympia" and "Matterhorn". It is a homecoming for the Swedish producer, with two tracks released on the new house label he runs: Mutant Recordings. This 4th released has been then followed by the electronic production made with his buddy Avicii under the project Jovicii and its excellent “Don’t hold back”, that we reviewed some weeks ago.
“Olympia” is mainly composed of chords with an effective echo effective that gives power to the production that is amplified with sounds that look like gongs. This strong house production quiet progressive in its attitude have a passage quite sprawling. It takes you arms and takes you directly to the dance floor.
Unlike the previous track, "Matterhorn" is slightly less joyous but equally effective. The track is simple in its construction with samples that are difficult to attribute John Dahlback style.
Thus we have two productions, rather good, but not necessarily original. It vogues on the trend of the moment, with a fairly progressive and happy house atmosphere. If John Dahlback returns to track more house than electro, he is still quite far from the style of his first love. The artist has become more mature, but when you listen to these tracks, it is difficult to recognize the Swedish producer touch. These tracks could have been signed by one of his Nordic colleagues Pryda for instance...
