Some days ago, two upfront producers from Greece, GummiHz and Nikola Gala have release their new EP “Sapfo EP” on the German young label Claap. Indeed, on its first installment, claap001 features a collaboration between two of Greece's finest exports in house and techno: label owner GummiHz and Nikola Gala offer a 3 tracker that’s bound to make floors shake. Three wonderful and mature tracks including elements spanning from jazz to ethnic to a total mind trip! That’s exactly what we like at Actualites Electroniques to relax.

02. GummiHz & Nikola Gala - White Flowers
03. GummiHz & Nikola Gala - Deception
Alexander Tsotsos aka Gummihz is not a new guy. Since 2006, he's been steadily serving his unique mixture of house and techno through imprints like Mobilee records, Treibstoff and more recently Earthrumental music. His tracks have been played by a lot of famous DJs such as Danny Tenaglia, Tiefschwarz, Derrick May and even John Digweed! More recently, Alex released his debut album titled "Sleepless nights", on Anja Schneider's Mobilee records. Concerning his buddy Nikola Gala, he is also Greek and owns his own record Escada Music.
Let’s get back the music. On the A side, the guys have produced two excellent tech house grooves. In "Sapfo", an organic drum groove sets the stage as a haunting female voice takes you back to the Byzantine years! There is a mystic feeling that comes from it, certainly because of the voice and that is what we like here.
The jazz influenced track "White Flowers" main groove consists of an acoustic bass and a piano. There are these jazzy and sweet flavors with a singular beat and some nice guitar that will delight you for sure. It’s just perfect to beginning a party with, to make people dance. This is for us the best track of this EP. The track evolves nicely before breaking down into a full jazz theme. It’s time to move your feet !
Contrary to the 2 first tracks, "Deception" is darker and more hypnotic. It will make you sweat. It features a more "mental" atmosphere that will fit with dark rooms and late hours. Tightly structured, it’s easily the sort of track you can lose it to on the dancefloor.
To conclude, we can say that this EP is a very good start for the new label Claap founded by Alexandros Tsotsos aka GummiHz and newly established in Berlin. We will for sure follow the next releases of this imprint, as we’ve done with Union Match Music, the Belgian label we interviewed some weeks ago. As I’m sure you will like these productions, we’ve decided to interview the two artists. We will publish soon an interview with each order. They will give us notably their vision about the Greek electronic scene, notably known for its island Mykonos. Ladies and gents it’s time to claap!
