Booka Shade - Regenerate (Remixes EP)

From their critically acclaimed fourth studio album “More!”, that we reviewed some weeks ago, Booka Shade’s final release of 2010 is “Regenerate”. It comes with a remix package from the veritable who’s who on the hot remixer tip right now including Popof, Kris Menace, Pan-Pot and Lazersonic & Zak Frost. This fantastic EP has been released on November 23rd on Beatport and will be available as general and limited edition vinyl release on December 6th. As usual with the German duo, it will be released under Coop / Get Physical Music Records.

2010 has been a golden year for the German duo, Booka Shade. They released their fourth studio album ‘More!’ in April - cited by Mixmag as "taking dance music to a new place altogether" and given album of the week in the Independent, as well as great reviews across the press spectrum.  They also joined Annie Nightingale to do a live session at Maida Vale to celebrate Nightingale’s 40 years with BBC Radio 1, remixed Swiss electronica band Yello, headlined the likes of Manchester's Warehouse Project, The Forum in London, Belgium's I Love Techno Festival, Sonar Festival Barcelona, London's Lovebox Festival, Space Ibiza, Future Music Festival Australia and recently toured the US Live with More! As part of the Big Day Out Festival, Booka Shade will kick off 2011 with a Live & DJ Set tour of Australia and New Zealand.

“Regenerate” original remix is Booka Shade’s own new take on their “More!” album version, weaving a haunting femme vocal through bouncing synths and an epic breakdown.  French producer Popof, with previous releases on Turbo and Form Music, pushes the groove through finely crafted highs and lows whilst. Kris Menace’s mix has been described as a ‘monster’ by Booka Shade themselves. Straight out of Berlin and taking it to the dark side are Mobilee’s Pan-Pot and Lazersonic & Zak Frost who turn Booka Shade’s haunting original mix into a steady tech-house groover. Also coming with remixes from this year’s Beatport remix competition winner Pysh and runner up Luke Mandala.

More precisely, here is my review for each track:
> Booka Shade - Regenerate (Original Mix): “The best track of the EP! Inimitable! What a progression at the beginning, with this vocal dark and hypnotic. Just perfect….”
> Booka Shade - Regenerate (Popof Remix): “So far the best remix of this EP done by the French producer will interview in a few days. It adds something more dancing in the vibe, with a dash fantastic notes at the end. Raise your hands and dance. That’s just the way it is. The vocal is kept as the original. Hot hot hot ! Certainly the release of the month…. Don’t miss it, it’s massive.”
> Booka Shade - Regenerate (Kris Menace Remix): “We love so much this guy ! He uses a lot the synth to create let say a progressive track, without any vocal. It is quite different from what he has done before : let funky. Very good end with a more powerful music.”
> Booka Shade - Regenerate (Pan-Pot Remix): “Massive production, evolving and a progressive and dark atmosphere, with a very good flow and a strong beat that will urge you to the dancefloor with irresistible force.”
> Booka Shade - Regenerate (Lazersonic & Zak Frost Remix): “The funkier remix between all of them. It keeps the main spirit of the original version, but evolves in a housy ambiance. There are also clever instrument added in the track that give this very funky tone.”
> Booka Shade - Regenerate (Luke Mandala Remix): “Interesting remix, very different from the other versions, mixing an electro beat with kind of a groovy and house rhythm.
> Booka Shade - Regenerate (Pysh Remix): “Good work on the synth that are darker and than the original. It uses a lot the vocal as the base of his composition, with claps that accelerate the track vs. the original version. It is an hypnotic track, just perfect for an after party. Very good work, from the man who won this year’s Beatport remix competition.”

Now it’s time to regenerate…
