You will find in this category each week, an interview or a biograhpy of a Dj or artist which is breaking the news. All styles are on the “menu” of this category: minimal, house, electro, techno or even trance in some cases.
The topic will be supplemented by other Djs following the latest electronic music news.
After contacting the most famous and one of the most productive labels of the U.K.: Toolroom Records we got an exclusive interview with Michael Woods an English DJ & producer also known onto the English electronic music scene under his pseudo Warrior and Out of Office, for almost ten years now. This interview follows notably the one of Thomas Schumacher and M.A.N.D.Y.. So, first of all, I we would like to thank Toolroom Records and Michael who answers the questions. Have a good reading!
“Hi Michael,
I’ve reviewed some days ago your new EP that has been released under Toolroom Records "Nitro EP", which follows another EP “Dynamik” that has been released under Deadmau5’s label : Mau5trap Recordings, such a remix of “Hello” from Martin Solveig. Quiet busy days we can imagine. What will be your next track to be released?
> The next track to be released is one I’ve just finished in the studio and will be coming out on my own label Diffused Music.
I’ve just seen too that you’ve done a remix for Deadmau5 of this track “I Said” produced with Chris Lake that will be released on his upcoming album called “4x4=12”.Could you please tell us a little more about this remix and how did you enter in contact with Deadmau5 which seems as an untouchable producer these days…
>Luckily we share the same management. They were looking for a remix of “I Said” and I said I’d have a go at turning it around in 24 hours, which I did and the mix really seemed to connect with everybody.
If I come back to the beginning of your career, do you think that your remix of Energy 5 “Café Del Mar” under your other pseudo Out Of Office, and which held pride of place on the acclaimed Chilled Ibiza Gold Album, is the track that launched and helped your career to rise faster? Did you consider it as you first massive track?
>No really, there were other more significant tracks and remixes I made in my 10-year career which have helped me get to where I am today, although this is a track which has definitely given me some recognition.
I’ve seen you have another pseudo: Warrior and that you released in England notably two tracks that hit the charts under it. Are you still producing as Warrior? Is there any upcoming tracks?
> Not at present but there is talk about remixing my old track “Warrior”
A few people know that you founded the label “Diffused Music” which has become your major priority since September 2008. Could you please tell us a bit more about this project and why did you create a label? Was it for your own productions or to highlight other artists?
> A bit of both really. I primarily created the label as a means by which I could release my own productions without having to give up the copyright on my tracks and stay in control of them 100%. Also it gives me a means to release other people’s tracks, as I receive so many promos every day there are a few which I have given a home to.. look out for some of those being release early 2011.
Are there any artists you would like to talk about that has been signed under Diffused, or is there any other English artists you would like to talk about today?
>As I mentioned there are a few artists lined up to release on Diffused and they will start to happen beginning of 2011 but as deals are not yet 100% I don’t want to mention any names.
Knowing that you come from England and more especially from London, could you please tell us a bit more about the U.K. electronic music scene, mainly knows for its underground and eclectic tracks played in the nightclubs?
> London is filled with great nights spanning all kinds of genres of music. In London the tech-house scene is really big and as you travel further north in the UK towards places like Manchester and Liverpool you see a really bug presence in Progressive house. Of course this all depends on the club.
There has been always an antagonism between French and English, throughout the history. Could you please tell us what is your vision about the French electronic music scene?
> Its hard for me to answer this question as to this day I have never been to a nightclub in France. Although France has spawned some amazing producers, for examples Justice.
Are there any French artists that you especially appreciate more than another?
> Like I said Justice is an amazing producer
Is there one more thing you would like to add/talk about today (open question)?
> I’d just like to say that 2010 has been an amazing year form me, from having a residency at one of the world’s most famous clubs in Ibiza, Amnesia to now being resident DJ at the Ministry of Sound in London. Can’t wait for 2011!
