You will find in this category each week, a review on a top CD album or vinyl album which is breaking the news. All styles are on the “menu” of this category: minimal, house, electro, techno or even trance in some cases.
The topic will be supplemented by other albums following the latest electronic music news.
On March 9 will be released "Smoked Beat", the second album of the Montreal electro duo Les Limaces(The Slugs), under the independent imprint Tasty Bytes Records. Received as a promo, it was clear from the first notes that it will be an incongruous musical discovery! More precisely, this excellent album will be available on a forty online music platforms including iTunes, Beatport, Amazon, eMusic and Juno Download. It will also be officially launched at the Full Circle, an event to be held on March 10 at the Espace Réunion, in Montreal. During it, the Limaces will perform live, with a range of artists including the Portuguese Dj Pena, the Montrealers Omni, Mono-poly and Digital Committee. This album that sounds like an electronic slap makes us slaver. So it was impossible for me not to review it!
"Slurp", their first album has been released on Tasty Bytes Records in 2010 and offered them a repeated support from the musical critics like Claude Rajotte, who broadcasted their music on his radio show Espace Musique. He even consecrated them as one of the best discoveries of 2011 on Musique Plus. Their latest releases have also led to a series of remarkable performances in events and festivals like the Piknic Electronik, Eclipse Festival, Totem Festival and Panorama.
By continuing this great start, they present us today a new album "Smoked Beat", a well produced and multifaceted opus that underlines their mastery of the dance floor but also their sense of melody and their technical control for sharp tracks, influenced by various style of music.
You will find here a rare consistency of grooves, so the tech-house fans must listen to this album. Indeed, it contains funky and happy melodies but also some darker tracks, equally as good as each other. For us, the best track is the eponym one that is to say the one with the same name of the album "Smoked beat”. So good!
This promo was an excellent surprise, as we've rarely received. Composed of Benoit Carreau and Alexandre Caron, this Montreal band diffuses for about 1 hour some great groovy and melodic sounds. With their four tentacles, they overlap big bouncy bass and twisted lines, creating dancing and narrative pieces of music you’ll never forget.
So… Let you slide on the colorful trail of these Limaces...
LES LIMACES – WHO ARE THEY?
Why "Slugs"? Because "The Beatles" was already taken, of course! Benoit Carreua is a musician who touches to everything, especially the piano and drums. Alex Caron, is a self-taught computer expert and a well-known DJ of the Montreal scene. In 2008, they finally agree, during a studio jam, to follow the same path: Les Limaces were born!
The talent of our two specimens has been quickly rewarded: they finished second of the Canadian Roland synthesizers competition, in 2009. Then in 2010, Les Limaces won the Donso remix contest for Comet Records Paris. Their work finally bear fruit in October 2010, as they released their first album "Slurp" on Tasty Bytes Records.
