The architect of the Brazilian groove, Gui Boratto, returns with a new LP as effective as his previous releases on Kompakt Records! His new piece, "Abaporu", an exotic and colorful day, cadenced by 13 richly orchestrated club tracks, reveals his penchant for kitsches and catchy melodies such as infectious rhythms that characterize him since "Chromophobia", released in 2007. A very beautiful album that will perfectly decorated your Christmas tree for the end of 2014.
In some ways, maybe it is his best album so far. Indeed, Gui Boratto gave us a collection of contemporary flavored beats, with a mix of techno and house tones that turns the album into a groove stream of consciousness that will surprise you track after track along this one hour of music trip. It is an act of cultural appropriation, as the cover and the title suggest. Directly inspired by the painting entitled "Abaporu" of the famous modern Brazilian painter (Tarsila Do Amaral), Gui draws the rich history of the Brazilian modern art, where the influence of natives and European art has created a very exciting collision of music genres.
This stylish and danceable album opens with "Antropofagia" which refers directly to the "Manifesto Antropógafo" (translated "Cannibal Manifesto") of Oswald De Andrade. Tarsila's husband was a strong supporter of the famous Cannibal Movement, which was to literally to devour the European culture so it becomes truly Brazilian!
In a dazzling display of deep sounds, Gui Boratto arranges his lushed synthscapes, depicting the extent of a neo-primitivist crisis and bright colors which, as a grand finale shows an immense wealth of retro-modernist touches and meticulous textures. This talented producer and engineer proves again to us that he is fluent in the musical narration with a maximum impact on the dance floor.
The ingenuity of his music is revealed in deceptively simplicity. This album is a captivating experience not to be missed. Being one of the most successful projects of the great Brazilian artist, "Abaporu" propels him, again at the top of electronic music scene. It connects electronic cables between Europe and South America to his - and our - taste.
A not to be missed album, to offer or to buy for yourself, without a second of hesitation!
