Ever since MYNC were given the call-up to mix the official ‘Space Ibiza’ album two years ago, things have really taken off for the British house collective. Not only were they given the chance to compile the compilation for a further two consecutive years, they also achieved Number 1 Beatport success with the massive 'I Feel Love' (featuring Wynter Gordon), a track that earned the widespread support of some of the most notable figures in dance music from Annie Mac to Carl Cox and beyond. Since then, a string of successful single releases followed including 'Special Brew', 'MYNCDJ is our twitter' and most recently, 'London to Melbourne'.
The 24-track Live & Direct MYNC mix has been assembled in a totally unique and with exceptional fashion. Some of the artists featured were specifically targeted by MYNC themselves, whilst the rest were handpicked from the vast number of demos that they receive on a daily basis. However, the most exciting theme running throughout the compilation is that all 24 tracks are previously unheard, un-released and exclusive to the mix. One track really hit me: Supernova Back To Bach. Fantastic tune. A must have to buy. With entirely fresh cuts from some of house music’s big hitters (such as Ralph Berr and Stefano Noferini to Umek and Dan Castro) there can be no doubt that the Live & Direct mix showcases the versatility that MYNC offer as a DJ act, touching upon a whole spectrum of musical influences and inspirations along the way. They explain:
“The first part serves up a tech house sound that we might play in more underground clubs while disc 2 steps things up a gear and shows the more upbeat nature of MYNC. The second part takes off where the first finishes and moves through more techno edge tracks into some big room house. We play at many different venues and have a selection that is broad enough to suit all floors and we hope that this is encapsulated within this mix.”
Taking us on a sonic journey from the depths of the murky underground through to more clean-cut stadium rockers, ‘Live & Direct’ delivers a little something to satisfy house and techno lovers of every ilk. With a release date set just after Miami’s 2011 Winter Music Conference - available for digital download on Beatport from the 3rd April - the MYNC posse and the formidable Cr2 label once again offer us an extra-special, diverse and exclusive compilation to get our teeth stuck into this springtime.
