You will find in this category each week, a review on a top CD album or vinyl album which is breaking the news. All styles are on the “menu” of this category: minimal, house, electro, techno or even trance in some cases.
The topic will be supplemented by other albums following the latest electronic music news.
Some days ago, I received as a promo the new compilation “Different” of the German label Boxer Recordings, a fantastic musical snap. Usually, a label compilation provides a comprehensive snapshot of the label’s current artists and sounds. Some call it showcase, other simply call it spring-cleaning. The “Different” compilation that will be released on the 8th of November 2010, is the result of the meticulous and thorough selection of the Boxer crew. It offers us a pure moment of enjoyment with relaxing tracks coming from the best artists of the minimal and techno world, like Extrawelt, Gui Boratto or Paul Nazca, that we will interview in a few days. What a fantastic selection….

The compilation “Different” is far from being just a hoarding of leftovers, it is rather conceived as a poison cabinet with doors wide open, a playground for free spirits and artists, and an open space far beyond the dance-floor dramaturgy and its rigid rules or common expectations. Easy! Relax! And then see what happens. Fun rules, the daily business can wait.
Some candidates involved in this project are already familiar with this freedom: Kreidler, for example, who come up with their full panoply of subtleties and the microscopic funk track “Venusia”; or Frank Martiniq who re-interprets urban myths about intelligent cars or genetically modified monster crocodiles living in the city’s sewer system, and of course in slow motion and high-resolution.
Others are obviously enjoying their time off from the 4/4: Pig and Dan present charming, smooth Lo-Fi Pop; Extrawelt adjust their bore holes; Gui Boratto adds sound to psychotropic thrillers in the Brazilian jungle, and Florian Meindl meditates upon string ensembles taking a walk on the beach.
You can’t miss the 2 following tracks: Matzak “One More Day 1” and also the incredible track from Dusty Kid “Nemur” in its guitars acoustic version, just perfect to give you a little bit of sunshine flavor.
Altogether, the quality of these tracks is just fantastic thanks to the pioneer spirit that drives the journey into unknown territories, and all electronic music artists know exactly what we are talking about.
At the end, we can say that the result of the “Different” compilation is coherent and thrilling. This relaxing compilation is a moment that will break up your routine. It offers you a short moment when suddenly almost everything looks completely different. Just perfect to chill out with your friends around a beer.
