It is on September 29th that has been released the 22nd EP of the label Mistakes Music, leads by the French producer Sebastien Leger. Indeed, today the new EP of French DJ and producer has been out. It is composed of 3 tracks: "Gone wild", "Mixtape" in its original version and a remix of Umek. Evolving in an atmosphere mixing techno and house, it is an interesting EP that shows us once again, the talent of the artist from Aix en Provence.
I don’t know if you are like me, but I feel that these recent days Sebastien Leger releases one track every week! To be honest, this is not an impression, and it annoys the artist. Indeed, following the acquisition by Dj Center of former labels like Black Jack, on which Sebastian had produced some tracks, it is selling old tracks from Sebastien.
This creates confusion and has an effect of disrupting the listeners. There is therefore a mixture of different tracks, between the officials coming out on Mistakes Music, and on the other hand there are the old Sebastien’s productions, produced in early 2000’s on Black Jack, Riviera or Grand Prix Recordings like the tracks "You Can Hide From Your Beat" or "Take your pills."
Regarding the new EP out today, let's beginning with "Gone wild". This track is evolving, as we mentioned earlier, in the tradition of "Dog tag" or "Mars". Resolutely techno, it remains characteristic of the style of Sebastien Leger. It is also produced with several rhythmic variations, although the overall remains fairly linear.
Concerning "Mixtape", there are some originalities with an ambiance on the borders of the house, not without reminding us a certain atmosphere coming directly from Chicago. Funkier than the first track, it consists of a filtered vocal sand sample sounds of bubbles! Surprisingly, this is a true innovation that stands out from many previous productions of Sebastien Leger.
Finally, the remix of "Mixtape" by Umek, is more dynamic than its original version. The DJ from Slovenia delivers a production quality, even if we prefer the original version. This collaboration between the two artists is not the first of its kind. Indeed, in June of this year 2010, there was the release of "Circles of Hell" a track produced by Umek, remixed by Sebastien Leger.
As usual, Sebastien Leger is faithful to its principles, releasing an EP of quality. We particularly love the track "Mixtape", really original. We also would like to know what could inspire Sebastien Leger for this track! So we will wait for his next EP, and see if this musical shift is confirmed or not....
