You will find in this category each week, a review on a MP3 track or vinyl track which is breaking the news. All styles are on the “menu” of this category: minimal, house, electro, techno or even trance in some cases.
The topic will be supplemented by other albums following the latest electronic music news.
Hello there! Here it is!!! My first review for Actualités Électroniques with a track of Pig and Dan. It’s dark, but it’s still warm. The animals of the forest nearby haven’t laid down for the night yet and you have no intention to rest your own head anywhere but in a starry sky. What it is the soul seeks in this wilderness, you know it will find. The constellations might be strobe lights or even the flickering of a candle flame. Calling to one another in the mud of the swamp, the cries of bullfrogs might be the gurgling scare of hungry ghosts.
What is clear is, in the midst of fear “The Beast” awaits. If we dare immerse ourselves inside what makes us afraid, something more dreadful may wake. That is what we truly must face, our power. I step into this Pig & Dan track smokey with the clinging scent of burning sage. An incantation no less of birds traveling back to their nests, a prayer insects sing to summon the safety of the night. One might feed on the other during the day, but in the eve they unite in song. Such is the sacred ground that the Spanish duo invites us to on their latest album “Then & Now” released in the Fall of 2011 on Yoshitoshi.
With this double bill compilation, half best of/half new material, Sharam’s label continues spreading the sonic love pouring out from these two most productive pioneers with steadfast assurance. Pig & Dan found the edge of comfort and ceaselessly settled their beats to lull us into believing we know what surprise to expect, only to slap us across the ears and snap us out of convention. With the jungle of “The Beast” especially, I am reminded of what draws me to electronic dance music, which is the tribal experience.
The choice is yours to make: you can aim for an escape and tune out, or you can decide to stay here in this moment and tune in.
