You will find in this category each week, a review on a MP3 track or vinyl track which is breaking the news. All styles are on the “menu” of this category: minimal, house, electro, techno or even trance in some cases.
The topic will be supplemented by other albums following the latest electronic music news.
We had talked recently of "Stylo" the last track of Gorillaz remixed by the English producer Louis La Roche. Today's article reviews the original track and the accompanying video. The group Gorillaz released in early March 2010 his 3rd album “Plastic Beach” with a briskly promotion. This album consists of prestigious collaborations as Snoop Dogg, De La Soul, Public Enemy, or Barry Gibb, one of the bearded members of Bee Gees!
Known for their debut in 2001 with "Clint Eastwood", the group has maintained a certain mystery around their music. Renowned for their music talent, they were also known for the clips that have accompanied their tracks. Indeed, everyone remembers those little 2D figurines in their video clips. Please note that the leader of Group 2 D, accompanied by Murdoc, Noodle, Russel Hobbs, is also known as Damon Albarn, leader of the iconic Britpop group Blur!
Gorillaz is thus a universe all by himself, especially with these graphics made by Jamie Hewlett and his music with electro pop accents.
The track “Stylo" is a very pleasant surprise. Indeed, I first discovered the track by this particular clip. Indeed, for those who will watch this clip below and available since March 2 on Youtube, you will easily recognize the long sequence shot at the beginning of the Daft Punk’s movie "Electroma". There is a car very similar, which is cruising on a deserted highway in the middle of nowhere. Quiet confusing! With hyper realistic graphics, integration with the characters almost perfect, this video shows a famous actor: Mr. Bruce Willis!
Concerning the track, it is a featuring with Bobby Womack and Mos Def known as an actor, but also as an MC without equal, so funky. This track has a good beat with good use of synths that create an electro pop atmosphere. Finally rather quiet at the beginning, the melody is increasing with the arrival of the voice of the U.S. MC using a looped vocal working rather well.
Finally, please note that to promote the album, organized via a comprehensive marketing strategy, there was the launch of a G-Club from Facebook and special offers on the site Gorillaz.com. For registered members and for 25 euros per year only, they will have access to exclusive goodies and discounts. Another great track of this album “Plastic Beach”.
