In line with our article on David Morales, this is another classic house track from the late 90’s: Phats and Small "Turn Around". Also released in 1998 by an English duo, this production follows the tradition of the filtered house music from this period. It was a hit throughout Europe. Note that the lyrics were taken from the song "Reach Up” by Toney Lee and the melody of "Glow Of Love” from Change released in the early 80s.
Since "Turn Around" reached the second place in the UK charts at the end of 1999 there was about one and a half million copies sold across Europe. This strong house music has created a buzz for this group who was unfortunately short-lived. Indeed, the group released only one album with ten tracks, including the second single "Feel Good" which used the same basic rhythm and which also became a must-have track.
The track itself is composed around a looped sample that builds the basis of the instrumental piece. More precisely it is the track "Glow of Love" from Change feat. Luther Vandross released in 1980. Furthermore, the vocal part, which was sampled at the origin, was then recorded by Ben Ofoedu, who has a voice very similar to Cher. However, the very basis of vocal part come from Tony Lee with his track "Reach up". Finally we find for the vocal part extracts of Janet Jackson "All for you" track. What a mix of different artists!
At the end, the English duo delivers a simple and effective music, which is always a success in night clubs.
