Listening again the track of Sebastien Leger "Jaguar", I told myself that I must tell you the real story of this production. Indeed, this production of Sebastien Leger is nothing but a recovery a little more modern of the famous track from Dj Rolando "Knights Of The Jaguar." Also known by the nickname The Aztec Mystic, this track is considered to be one of the pillars of the global electronic music. Produced in late 1999, it appeared at the same time that the inevitable "Bell" from Jeff Mills. What a time!
The man hails from Detroit. He was heavily influenced by Hispanic music, from which it originated. Thus, there are often the rhythms and percussion of Latin influence in his compositions. He served initially on the Underground Resistance label, which produced "Knights of the Jaguar."
If the track has become known, it is in part because of a scandal! Indeed, against the wishes of Underground Resistance, Sony/BMG released the track anyway. The incident allows the world to know the track. It gave him tremendous visibility. Unfortunately, Underground Resistance and Dj Rolando had no compensation; the event nevertheless allows them to make themselves known to the world. Some remixes have been made notably by Derrick May, Jeff Mills and Octave One. What a f***ing techno list!
Concerning the track, it consists of typical Latin percussions, like his track "Where were you? " with a techno basis to support it all. Recognizable from its first sounds, the track has a simple beat but terribly effective. The entire melody then relies on a breathless music with notes that came out of nowhere, with some samples of violins well placed.
10 years later, Sebastien Leger decides to bring up this anthem of electronic music, giving an extra dimension. Less techno than the original, the remix is still very dancefloor. Often, such as these remixes are a failure, but we can say here that Sebastien Leger delivered a quality job without damaging the image of the original track. But to truly appreciate this version of the French producer, it is necessary to listen before the original version...
Finally, Dj Rolando is also known to be a member of "Los hermanos" a U.S. group that mixes jazz and techno that he unfortunately left in 2005. There are too Gerald Mitchell, Dan Caballero and Santiago Salazar. Their productions are listenable on their Los Hermanos Myspace. Otherwise this is one of their live, quite impressive: LOS HERMANOS - Jaguar @METAMORPHOSE 09
